If someone claims to be in the light, but they hate a brother or sister, then they’re really still in the darkness.

If anyone claims to love God but they hate a brother or sister, they’re a liar. If they don’t love their brother or sister, even though they’ve seen them, they can’t claim to love God, when they haven’t seen him.

But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness. They’re walking around in the darkness, and they don’t know where they’re going, because the darkness has made them blind.

But anyone who doesn’t take on these qualities is seeing only the present. They’re blind to the past, forgetting all their sins that have been washed away.

If anyone says, “I know him,” but they don’t do what God commands, then they’re a liar and they’re not telling the truth.

If we say that we share life with God but still walk in the darkness, then we’re lying and not living the truth.

Jesus said, “If you were blind, you wouldn’t be guilty of sin. But since you claim you can see, you remain guilty.

In those days there were about 120 believers. Peter stood up among them to speak.

Here’s how you can tell the difference between God’s children and the devil’s children. Anyone who doesn’t do what is right isn’t God’s child, and anyone who doesn’t love their brother or sister isn’t God’s child either.
