Dear friends, I’m not writing you a new command. Instead, I’m writing one that you’ve heard before. You’ve had it since the beginning.

We’ve heard from the beginning that we should love one another.

And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.

Make sure that what you’ve heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, then you’ll remain in the Son and in the Father.

“You’ve heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor. Hate your enemy.’

They brought him to a meeting of the Areopagus, where they asked him, “What are these new ideas you’re teaching?

“I’m giving you a new command: Love one another. You must love one another just as I have loved you.

Even though we’re talking like this, we’re sure of better things in your case, dear friends—things that go with being saved.

Dear friends, now we are children of God. We don’t know yet what we will be. But we know that when Christ appears, we’ll be like him, because we’ll see him as he really is.

Dear friends, if we don’t feel guilty in our hearts, we can be confident when we pray,

Dear friends, don’t believe every spirit. Instead, test the spirits to see if they are from God. Many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Dear friends, let us love one another, because love comes from God. Everyone who loves is a child of God and knows God.

Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we should also love one another.

Here’s the command God has given us: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.
