But if anyone does obey God’s word, then that person truly loves God. This is how we know we belong to him:

Jesus answered, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.

Anyone who has my commands and obeys them loves me. My Father will love the one who loves me, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

He replied, “Blessed instead are those who hear God’s word and obey it.”

The one who obeys God’s commands lives in him, and he lives in them. Here’s how we know that God lives in us: We know it by the Holy Spirit he gave us.

This should encourage God’s people, who obey his commands, to be very patient and remain faithful to Jesus.

Here’s how we know that we love God’s children: by loving God and obeying his commands.

“I am the vine and you are the branches. If you remain in me and I remain in you, you will bear much fruit. Apart from me, you can do nothing.

There is no fear in love. Instead, perfect love drives away fear, because fear has to do with being punished. The one who fears has not been perfected in love.

If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old is gone! The new is here!

The dragon was very angry with the woman, so he went off to fight a war against the rest of her children. They’re all the people who obey God’s commands and speak the truth about Jesus to others.

We also know that the Son of God has come and given us understanding so that we can know the God who is true. And we are in the true God by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

Because of what God has done, you belong to Christ Jesus. He has become God’s wisdom for us. He makes us right with God, he makes us holy, and he sets us free.

Therefore, those who belong to Christ Jesus are no longer under God’s judgment.

So you see that what he believed and the action he took were working together. His action made his faith complete.

He never sinned, but God made him become sin for us, so that in him we could be made right with God.

Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I remain in them.

This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus.

The way we show our love is by obeying God’s commands. As you’ve heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.
