If we say that we share life with God but still walk in the darkness, then we’re lying and not living the truth.

If anyone claims to love God but they hate a brother or sister, they’re a liar. If they don’t love their brother or sister, even though they’ve seen them, they can’t claim to love God, when they haven’t seen him.

If anyone says, “I know him,” but they don’t do what God commands, then they’re a liar and they’re not telling the truth.

If we claim that we haven’t sinned, we’re calling God a liar and his word isn’t in us.

Jesus spoke to the people again and said, “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in darkness. They will have the light of life.”

Then Jesus told them, “You’re going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness catches up with you. Whoever walks in the dark doesn’t know where they’re going.

My brothers and sisters, if a person claims to have faith but never acts on it, what good is that? Can that kind of faith save them?

I have come into the world to be its light, so that no one who believes in me will remain in darkness.

We’re announcing to you what we’ve seen and heard so that you can share life together with us, with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

It’s the person who walks at night who trips and falls, because they don’t have any light.”

But someone will say, “You have faith; I take action.” If you do have faith, the only way to show it is by the action it produces. But when I take action, that will show you the faith I have.

If we claim not to have any sin, then we’re fooling ourselves and the truth isn’t in us.

If one of you says to them, “I hope everything works out for you; stay warm and eat well,” but you don’t provide any practical help, what good is that?

Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord! Lord! Didn’t we prophesy in your name? Didn’t we drive out demons? Didn’t we do many miracles?’

Teachings like those come from liars who are hypocrites and who have destroyed their own consciences.

You don’t know him, but I know him. If I said I didn’t, I’d be a liar like you. But I do know him, and I obey his word.
