That’s the way it will be with you. Now is a time of sadness for you, but I will see you again. Then you’ll be full of joy, and no one will take your joy away.

Woe to you who are well fed now! You will go hungry. Woe to you who laugh now! You will cry and be sad.

Blessed are you who are hungry now, because you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who mourn now, because you will laugh.

Give her as much pain and suffering as she gave glory and wealth to herself. She brags in her heart, ‘I rule on a throne like a queen. I’m not a widow; I’ll never mourn.’

What I mean, brothers and sisters, is that the time is short. From now on, those who have a husband or wife should live as if they didn’t have one.

and those who use the things of this world shouldn’t become all wrapped up in them. The world as it now exists is passing away.
