These people aren’t connected anymore to the head, who is Christ. God makes the whole body grow as it’s guided by the head and held together by its tendons and ligaments.
Don’t you know that together you are a body, which is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you? You have received the Spirit from God. You don’t belong to yourselves;
I don’t ever want to brag about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Through that cross, the world has been crucified to me and I have been crucified to the world.
So is the law opposed to God’s promises? Certainly not! If a law had been given that could give life, then people could become right with God by obeying that law.
“But what if, as we seek to be made right with God through Christ, we Jews find ourselves to be sinners? Does that mean that Christ promotes sin? Certainly not!
Some of you are saying, “Food is meant for the stomach, and the stomach is meant for food, and God will destroy both of them.” But you can’t say the same thing about the body and sexual sins. The body is meant for the Lord, and the Lord is meant for the body.
Did what is good cause me to die? Not at all! But sin had to be recognized for what it was. So it used what was good to bring about my death. Because of the commandment, sin became totally sinful.
What should we say then? That the law is sinful? Not at all! But I wouldn’t have known what sin was unless the law had told me. The law says, “Do not covet.” If the law hadn’t said that, I wouldn’t have known that wanting what belongs to other people was “coveting,” and that it was wrong.
