We work hard with our own hands. When others curse us, we bless them. When we’re attacked, we don’t fight back.

If someone does something wrong to you or insults you, don’t do the same thing to them. Instead, respond with kind words. This is what God wants you to do so that you can receive a blessing.

“Blessed are you when, because of me, people insult you and attack you and falsely accuse you of doing all kinds of bad things.

Bless those who keep hurting you. Bless them, don’t curse them.

On the contrary, “If your enemies are hungry, give them food to eat. If they’re thirsty, give them something to drink. If you do that, you will pile up burning coals on their heads.”

and because they were tentmakers like him, he stayed and worked with them.

bless those who call down curses on you, and pray for those who treat you badly.

But if you suffer for doing what’s right, even then you’ll be blessed. Scripture says, “Don’t fear their threats and don’t be afraid.”

People shouted at him and insulted him, but he didn’t do the same thing back to them. He didn’t threaten to get revenge against the people who were making him suffer. Instead, he trusted in God, who judges fairly.

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, because they don’t know what they’re doing.” The soldiers divided up his clothes by casting lots.

But I tell you, love your enemies, and pray for those who hurt you.

Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, don’t hold this sin against them!” After he’d said this, he fell asleep.

Remember what I told you: ‘A slave is not greater than his master.’ If people have hated me and tried to hurt me, they will do the same to you. If they have obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours too.

But even Michael, the leader of the angels, didn’t dare to say anything insulting about the devil. They were arguing about who would get the body of Moses. Michael just said, “May the Lord stop you!”

This is why we work and try so hard—because we’ve put our hope in the living God, who’s the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.

We didn’t eat anyone’s food without paying for it. Instead, we worked night and day, laboring away so that we wouldn’t cause any expense to any of you.

Brothers and sisters, I’m sure you remember how hard we worked. We labored night and day while we preached God’s good news to you so that we wouldn’t cause you any expense.

Or are Barnabas and I the only ones who have to do other work to support ourselves while we serve as apostles?

You yourselves know that I worked with my own hands to meet my needs and those of the people traveling with me.

Here’s what people who suffer according to God’s will should do. They should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.

Who can separate us from the love of Christ? Can trouble or hard times or harm or hunger or nakedness or danger or war?

I received help from other churches so I could serve you. That was almost like robbing them.

Anyone who used to steal must never steal again. Instead, they should work, doing something useful with their own hands, so that they will have something to share with people in need.
