The person who doesn’t have the Spirit doesn’t accept the things that come from the Spirit of God. Those things seem foolish to them, and they can’t understand them, because they can’t be understood without the Spirit’s help.

The message of the cross seems foolish to those who are lost. But to us who are being saved, it is the power of God.

But you have the Holy Spirit flowing over you, and the Spirit continues to live in you. So you don’t need anyone to teach you. The Spirit teaches you about everything, and his presence in you is real, not fake. So remain in Christ, just as you’ve been taught.

What is animated by spirit didn’t come first; the natural came first. What is spiritual came after that.

These are the people who create divisions among you. They live only by instinct and they’re not led by the Holy Spirit.

“Wisdom” like that doesn’t come down from above. It’s earthly, unspiritual, and demonic,

But the Holy One has made the Spirit flow all over you, just as if you’d had sacred oil poured on your head, and so all of you know the truth.

It is planted as a body made alive in the natural way, but it is raised as a body made alive by spirit. Just as there is a naturally living body, there is also a spiritually living body.

What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we can understand what God has freely given us.

Even after Jesus had performed so many signs right in front of them, they still wouldn’t believe in him.

You accept praise from one another, but you don’t seek the praise that comes from the only God. So how can you believe?

Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You’re like a rock in my path to trip me. You’re not thinking about what God wants. You’re only thinking about what people want.”

But the Father will send the Helper or Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, in my name to help you. The Spirit will teach you all things and remind you of everything I’ve said to you.

One of the women who listened to us was named Lydia. She was from the city of Thyatira, and she had a business selling purple cloth. She already believed in God, and the Lord opened her heart to accept Paul’s message.

Why can’t you understand what I’m saying? Because you can’t really hear it.

but we preach about Christ and his death on the cross. That’s very hard for Jews to accept, and Gentiles think it’s foolish.

We also know that the Son of God has come and given us understanding so that we can know the God who is true. And we are in the true God by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

Instead, they argued with him about their own beliefs and about a man named Jesus. They said he was dead, but Paul claimed he was alive.

“From the Father, I’m going to send you the Helper, the Spirit of truth, who comes out from the Father. When the Helper arrives, he’ll be a witness about me.

But since this is all about words and names and your own law, settle the matter yourselves. I won’t be a judge of such things.”

When they heard Paul talk about the dead being raised, some of them laughed at that idea. But others said, “We want to hear you speak about this again.”

Many of them said, “He’s controlled by a demon! He’s gone crazy! Why should we listen to him?”

A group of Epicurean and Stoic thinkers began to argue with him. Some of them asked, “What is this person blabbing on about?” Others said, “He seems to be talking about gods we’ve never heard of.” They said this because Paul was preaching the good news about Jesus and saying that he’d risen from the dead.

That helper is the Spirit of truth. The world can’t accept him because it doesn’t see him or know him. But you know him because he lives with you and will be in you.

God wisely planned that the world wouldn’t be able to understand him through its own wisdom. Instead, God was happy to use the foolish things we preach to save those who believe.

The foolish things of God are wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.

Brothers and sisters, I couldn’t speak to you as people who were led by the Holy Spirit. I had to speak to you as people who were still following their own wrong desires. You’re not growing as Christ wants you to. You’re still like babies.
