To another he gives the power to do miracles, or to prophesy, or to tell spirits apart, or to speak in different kinds of languages they hadn’t known before. And to still others he gives the ability to explain what was said in those languages.

Brothers and sisters, you should be eager to prophesy, and you shouldn’t stop people from speaking in unknown languages.

In the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers. Among them were Barnabas, Simeon (also called Niger), Lucius from Cyrene, and Manaen, who’d been brought up with Herod, the ruler of Galilee. Saul was among them too.

If I have the gift of prophecy and can understand all the secret things of God and know everything about him, and if I have enough faith to move mountains, but I don’t have love, I’m nothing at all.

But if there’s no one to explain, they should keep quiet in the church and only speak to themselves and to God.

If a message comes from God to someone else who’s sitting there, the one who’s speaking should stop and let them speak.

Prophets are able to control their own spirits.

If anyone thinks they’re a prophet or that they have other gifts from the Spirit, they should agree that what I’m writing to you is the Lord’s command.
