So anyone who speaks in an unknown language should pray that they’ll be able to explain what they say.

Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in languages they hadn’t known before? Do all explain what is said in those languages?

So I tell you, when you pray for something, believe that you have already received it. Then it will be yours.

To another he gives the power to do miracles, or to prophesy, or to tell spirits apart, or to speak in different kinds of languages they hadn’t known before. And to still others he gives the ability to explain what was said in those languages.

When they arrived, they prayed that the new believers would receive the Holy Spirit.

They all came together regularly to pray. The women who’d come with them from Galilee joined them, and so did Jesus’ mother Mary and his brothers.

It’s the same with you. Since you’re eager to have the gifts of the Spirit, do your best to use the gifts that build up the church.

If I pray in an unknown language, my spirit is praying, but my mind is idle.

Brothers and sisters, what should we say then? When you come together, each of you should bring something—a hymn, a teaching, a revelation, a message in another language, or an explanation of what was said in another language. Everything must be done to build up the church.
