Most of all, love one another deeply, because love covers over many sins.

Instead, be kind and merciful to one another. Forgive one another, just as God has forgiven you in Christ.

As God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, put on tender mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience as if they were new clothes.

Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we should also love one another.

Finally, I want all of you to agree with one another. Be understanding, love one another, be kind and tender, be humble.

And we urge you, brothers and sisters, to warn certain people who don’t want to work and who are being disruptive. Encourage those who have lost hope, help those who are weak, and be patient with everyone.

To godliness, add kindness. And to kindness, add love.

Be completely humble and gentle. Be patient and bear with one another in love.

We live pure lives. We’re understanding, patient, and kind. We serve God in the Holy Spirit and with true love

and you’ll be strong, in keeping with his glorious power. You’ll be patient and never give up.

Let’s not become proud or make each other angry or want what belongs to someone else.

Brothers and sisters, I’ve used myself and Apollos as examples. I want to help you learn from us what the saying means, “Don’t go beyond what’s written.” If you understand that, you won’t feel proud that you follow one of us instead of the other.

Preach the word, be ready to serve God in good times and bad, correct people’s mistakes. Warn them, encourage them with words of hope, and be very patient as you do these things. Teach the people carefully,

But you know all about my teaching, my way of life, and my purpose, faith, love, and endurance.

So get rid of all hatred, deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and insults of every kind.

At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived, and controlled by all kinds of wrong desires and pleasures. We were hostile and envious. Other people hated us, and we hated them.

You’re still following your own wrong desires. If you’re jealous and you’re arguing, aren’t those desires in charge? Aren’t you acting like ordinary human beings?

If anyone opposes them, they must correct them gently, hoping that God will give them a change of heart and lead them to know the truth.

then that person is proud and doesn’t understand anything. They like to argue more than they should, and they’ll always be fighting about what words mean. This results in jealousy, fighting, harmful talk, and bad suspicions.

Now I’d like to talk about food that has been sacrificed to statues of gods. We know that “We all have knowledge.” But knowledge makes people proud, while love builds them up.

They did things that shouldn’t be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed, and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, fighting, deception, and bad motives.

Scripture says with good reason that God wants the spirit he put in us to belong only to him.

Some of you have become proud. You act as if I weren’t coming to you.

Let’s act properly, like people living in the daytime. Don’t go to wild parties and don’t get drunk. Don’t do anything immoral or indecent. Don’t get into fights or be jealous of anyone.

Some people pretend to be humble, and they worship angels. But don’t let people like that judge you. These people tell you in great detail about the visions they’ve seen, and they’re conceited because of all the ideas they have. But their ideas are really useless, because their minds aren’t guided by the Holy Spirit.

It’s true that some are preaching about Christ because they’re jealous of me. But others are preaching about Christ to help me in my work.

I’m afraid that when I come I won’t find you as I want you to be, and you won’t find me as you want me to be. I’m afraid that there will be arguing, jealousy, fits of anger, selfish ambition, insults, gossip, arrogance, and disorder.

And you’re proud of this! Shouldn’t you be grieving instead? Shouldn’t you have thrown this man out from among you?

Pilate knew that the leaders had handed Jesus over because they were jealous.
