Greet all your leaders and all the Lord’s people. The believers from Italy send you their greetings.

Have confidence in your leaders and put yourselves under their authority, because they’re keeping watch over you as people who will have to answer to God for everything they do. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden. It wouldn’t help you at all if you made their work more difficult.

Elders who lead the church well should be honored both with respect and with financial support. This is especially true of elders who preach and teach.

You’re a building that’s being built on the apostles and prophets as its foundation. Christ Jesus himself is the cornerstone that has been laid down first

Keep watch over yourselves and all the believers that the Holy Spirit has made you leaders over. Be shepherds of God’s church, which he bought with his own blood.

Don’t do anything that causes other people to trip and fall, whether Jews or Greeks or God’s church.

Is everyone an apostle? Is everyone a prophet? Is everyone a teacher? Do all work miracles?

Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in languages they hadn’t known before? Do all explain what is said in those languages?

Anyone who speaks in an unknown language doesn’t speak to people. They speak only to God. In fact, no one understands them, because what they say by the Spirit remains a mystery.

Those who speak in unknown languages build up only themselves. But the person who prophesies builds up the church.

I’d like all of you to speak in unknown languages, but I’d rather have you prophesy. The person who prophesies is more helpful than the one who speaks in an unknown language, unless someone explains what they’re saying; then the whole church can be built up.
