How lovely is thy dwelling-place, O Lord of hosts, to me! The tabernacles of thy grace how pleasant, Lord, they be!
One thing I of the Lord desir'd, and will seek to obtain, That all days of my life I may within God's house remain; That I the beauty of the Lord behold may and admire, And that I in his holy place may rev'rently enquire.
O send thy light forth and thy truth; let them be guides to me, And bring me to thine holy hill, ev'n where thy dwellings be.
They with the fatness of thy house shall be well satisfy'd; From rivers of thy pleasures thou wilt drink to them provide.
I joy'd when to the house of God, Go up, they said to me.
How excellent in all the earth, Lord, our Lord, is thy name! Who hast thy glory far advanc'd above the starry frame.
Till for the Lord a place I find, where he may make abode; A place of habitation for Jacob's mighty God.
Sing loud to God our strength; with joy to Jacob's God do sing.
Like as the hart for water-brooks in thirst doth pant and bray; So pants my longing soul, O God, that come to thee I may.
