Save me, O God, because the floods do so environ me, That ev'n unto my very soul come in the waters be.
I downward in deep mire do sink, where standing there is none: I am into deep waters come, where floods have o'er me gone.
O Lord, thou hast rejected us, and scatter'd us abroad; Thou justly hast displeased been; return to us, O God.
My heart brings forth a goodly thing; my words that I indite Concern the King: my tongue's a pen of one that swift doth write.
At the noise of thy water-spouts deep unto deep doth call; Thy breaking waves pass over me, yea, and thy billows all.
For this shall ev'ry godly one his prayer make to thee; In such a time he shall thee seek, as found thou mayest be. Surely, when floods of waters great do swell up to the brim, They shall not overwhelm his soul, nor once come near to him.
Floods of ill men affrighted me, death's pangs about me went;
Hear, Isr'el's Shepherd! like a flock thou that dost Joseph guide; Shine forth, O thou that dost between the cherubims abide.
