Because of th' en'my's voice, and for lewd men's oppression great: On me they cast iniquity, and they in wrath me hate.
False witnesses rose; to my charge things I not knew they laid.
Give me not to mine en'mies' will; for witnesses that lie Against me risen are, and such as breathe out cruelty.
They are corrupt; their talk of wrong both lewd and lofty is.
They said, God leaves him; him pursue and take: none will him save.
For they that strangers are to me do up against me rise; Oppressors seek my soul, and God set not before their eyes.
From lewd oppressors, compassing me round, as deadly foes.
For poor oppress'd, and for the sighs of needy, rise will I, Saith God, and him in safety set from such as him defy.
