When Sion's bondage God turn'd back, as men that dream'd were we.
O Lord, thou hast been favourable to thy beloved land: Jacob's captivity thou hast recall'd with mighty hand.
In my distress to God I cry'd, and he gave ear to me.
O thou that dwellest in the heav'ns, I lift mine eyes to thee.
Let Isr'el's help from Sion come: when back the Lord shall bring His captives, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall sing.
They in the Lord that firmly trust shall be like Sion hill, Which at no time can be remov'd, but standeth ever still.
Had not the Lord been on our side, may Israel now say;
I joy'd when to the house of God, Go up, they said to me.
I to the hills will lift mine eyes, from whence doth come mine aid.
Thou pardoned thy people hast all their iniquities; Thou all their trespasses and sins hast cover'd from thine eyes.
