To the pure all things are pure, but to the corrupt and unbelieving nothing is pure; their very minds and consciences are corrupted.

Some believe in eating anything, while the weak eat only vegetables.

It is not everyone, however, who has this knowledge. Since some have become so accustomed to idols until now, they still think of the food they eat as food offered to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.

For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, provided it is received with thanksgiving,

For if others see you, who possess knowledge, eating in the temple of an idol, might they not, since their conscience is weak, be encouraged to the point of eating food sacrificed to idols?

and he said to them, “You yourselves know that it is improper for a Jew to associate with or to visit an outsider, but God has shown me that I should not call anyone profane or unclean.

Eat whatever is sold in the meat market without raising any question on the ground of conscience,

But those who have doubts are condemned if they eat because they do not act from faith, for whatever does not proceed from faith is sin.

Do not, for the sake of food, destroy the work of God. Everything is indeed clean, but it is wrong to make someone stumble by what you eat;

they noticed that some of his disciples were eating with defiled hands, that is, without washing them.
