If it is a contest of strength, he is the strong one! If it is a matter of justice, who can summon him?

Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God,

On that day the Lord with his cruel and great and strong sword will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan the twisting serpent, and he will kill the dragon that is in the sea.

So the Lord cut off from Israel head and tail, palm branch and reed in one day—

I am against you, O arrogant one, says the Lord God of hosts, for your day has come, the time when I will punish you.

Their Redeemer is strong; the Lord of hosts is his name. He will surely plead their cause, that he may give rest to the earth but unrest to the inhabitants of Babylon.

Thus says the Lord of hosts: The broad wall of Babylon shall be leveled to the ground, and her high gates shall be burned with fire. The peoples exhaust themselves for nothing, the nations only for fire, and they have become weary.

Flee from the midst of Babylon; save your lives, each of you! Do not perish because of her guilt, for this is the time of the Lord’s vengeance; he is repaying her what is due.

The Lord utters his voice at the head of his army; how vast is his host! Numberless are those who obey his command. Truly the day of the Lord is great, terrible indeed—who can endure it?

Or are we provoking the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?

singing, “We give you thanks, Lord God Almighty, who are and who were, for you have taken your great power and begun to reign.

And the ten horns that you saw, they and the beast will hate the whore; they will make her desolate and naked; they will devour her flesh and burn her up with fire.

The woman you saw is the great city that rules over the kings of the earth.”

For in one hour all this wealth has been laid waste!” And all shipmasters and seafarers, sailors and all whose trade is on the sea, stood far off

And they threw dust on their heads as they wept and mourned, crying out, “Alas, alas, the great city, where all who had ships at sea grew rich by her wealth! For in one hour she has been laid waste.”

Once more they said, “Hallelujah! The smoke goes up from her forever and ever.”
