Lord, where is your steadfast love of old, which by your faithfulness you swore to David?
But I will not take my steadfast love from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you.
but this one became a priest with an oath because of the one who said to him, “The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind, ‘You are a priest forever’ ”
Incline your ear, and come to me; listen, so that you may live. I will make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast, sure love for David.
Once and for all I have sworn by my holiness; I will not lie to David.
He will repay my enemies for their evil. In your faithfulness, put an end to them.
So may God do to Abner and so may he add to it! For just what the Lord has sworn to David, that will I accomplish for him:
For the ransom of life is costly and can never suffice,
When we look at the wise, they die; fool and dolt perish together and leave their wealth to others.
