because they did not obey the voice of the Lord their God but transgressed his covenant—all that Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded; they neither listened nor obeyed.
Who gave up Jacob to the spoiler and Israel to the robbers? Was it not the Lord, against whom they sinned, in whose ways they would not walk, and whose law they would not obey?
Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but, in the stubbornness of their evil will, they walked in their own counsels and looked backward rather than forward.
