and strangers take their fill of your wealth, and your labors go to the house of an alien,

Foreigners devour his strength, but he does not know it; gray hairs are sprinkled upon him, but he does not know it.

Do not give your strength to women, your ways to those who destroy kings.

He will accept no compensation and will refuse a bribe no matter how great.

But when this son of yours came back, who has devoured your assets with prostitutes, you killed the fatted calf for him!’

lest you give your honor to others and your years to the merciless,

and at the end of your life you groan, when your flesh and body are consumed,

for a prostitute’s fee is only a loaf of bread, but the wife of another stalks a man’s precious life.

A child who loves wisdom makes a parent glad, but a companion of prostitutes destroys wealth.
