Those who keep the law are wise children, but companions of gluttons shame their parents.

Those who do violence to their father and chase away their mother are children who cause shame and bring reproach.

Anyone who robs father or mother and says, “That is no crime,” is partner to a thug.

The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a mother is disgraced by a neglected child.

A child who loves wisdom makes a parent glad, but a companion of prostitutes destroys wealth.

A few days later the younger son gathered all he had and traveled to a distant region, and there he squandered his wealth in dissolute living.

But when this son of yours came back, who has devoured your assets with prostitutes, you killed the fatted calf for him!’
