For learning about wisdom and instruction, for understanding words of insight,

Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” and call insight your intimate friend,

Why should fools have a price in hand to buy wisdom when they have no mind to learn?

O simple ones, learn prudence; acquire intelligence, you who lack it.

How much better to get wisdom than gold! To get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.

Listen, children, to a father’s instruction, and be attentive, that you may gain insight,

The fear of the Lord is instruction in wisdom, and humility goes before honor.

Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path,

Hear instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it.

Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom for the future.
