When the people heard the law, they separated from Israel all those of foreign descent.

But they had a wanton craving in the wilderness and put God to the test in the desert;

A mixed crowd also went up with them and livestock in great numbers, both flocks and herds.

“I have heard the complaining of the Israelites; say to them, ‘At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall have your fill of bread; then you shall know that I am the Lord your God.’ ”

The Israelites said to them, “If only we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat and ate our fill of bread, for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.”

and saying, ‘No, we will go to the land of Egypt, where we shall not see war or hear the sound of the trumpet or be hungry for bread, and there we will stay,’

And say to the people, ‘Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, and you shall eat meat, for you have wailed in the hearing of the Lord, saying, “If only we had meat to eat! Surely it was better for us in Egypt.” Therefore the Lord will give you meat, and you shall eat.

Then all the congregation raised a loud cry, and the people wept that night.

none of the people who have seen my glory and the signs that I did in Egypt and in the wilderness and yet have tested me these ten times and have not obeyed my voice

Is it too little that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey to kill us in the wilderness, that you must also lord it over us?

Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.

Now these things occurred as examples for us, so that we might not desire evil as they did.

Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”

“At Taberah also, and at Massah, and at Kibroth-hattaavah, you provoked the Lord to wrath.
