“But know this: if the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into.

Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

And when they received it, they grumbled against the landowner,

For my husband is not at home; he has gone on a long journey.

And early in the morning he came walking toward them on the sea.

Keep awake, therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.

And while they went to buy it, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went with him into the wedding banquet, and the door was shut.

Keep awake, therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.

When he saw that they were straining at the oars against an adverse wind, he came toward them early in the morning, walking on the sea. He intended to pass them by.

Therefore, keep awake, for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening or at midnight or at cockcrow or at dawn,

If he comes during the middle of the night or near dawn and finds them so, blessed are those slaves.

Be alert at all times, praying that you may have the strength to escape all these things that will take place and to stand before the Son of Man.”

Remember, then, what you received and heard; obey it and repent. If you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come to you.

(“See, I am coming like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake and is clothed, not going about naked and exposed to shame.”)

In the dark they dig through houses; by day they shut themselves up; they do not know the light.
