The Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test Jesus they asked him to show them a sign from heaven.
Others, to test him, kept demanding from him a sign from heaven.
While Peter and John were speaking to the people, the priests, the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees came to them,
Jesus said to them, “Watch out, and beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
For Jews ask for signs and Greeks desire wisdom,
They said this to test him, so that they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground.
Then the high priest took action; he and all who were with him (that is, the sect of the Sadducees), being filled with jealousy,
Some Sadducees, those who say there is no resurrection, came to him
But he perceived their craftiness and said to them,
An expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he said, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
Some Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him and asked him a question, saying,
Should we pay them, or should we not?” But knowing their hypocrisy, he said to them, “Why are you putting me to the test? Bring me a denarius and let me see it.”
Some, testing him, asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?”
The next day, that is, after the day of Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate
“The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’s seat;
The same day some Sadducees came to him saying there is no resurrection, and they asked him a question:
But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, “Why are you putting me to the test, you hypocrites?
Then the Pharisees went and plotted to entrap him in what he said.
Some Pharisees came to him, and to test him they asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any cause?”
Then Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said,
But the Pharisees went out and conspired against him, how to destroy him.
When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
Answer fools according to their folly, lest they be wise in their own eyes.
