What, then, did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.

The chief priests and the scribes were looking for a way to put Jesus to death, for they were afraid of the people.

Many came to him, and they were saying, “John performed no sign, but everything that John said about this man was true.”

Then the captain went with the temple police and brought them, but without violence, for they were afraid of being stoned by the people.
