But you rejected the holy and righteous one and asked to have a murderer given to you,
But they were insistent and said, “He stirs up the people by teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee where he began even to this place.”
They began to accuse him, saying, “We found this man inciting our nation, forbidding us to pay taxes to Caesar and saying that he himself is the Messiah, a king.”
Now a man called Barabbas was in prison with the insurrectionists who had committed murder during the insurrection.
Then they all shouted out together, “Away with this fellow! Release Barabbas for us!”
Pilate, wanting to release Jesus, addressed them again,
Then you are not the Egyptian who recently stirred up a revolt and led the four thousand assassins out into the wilderness?”
