They said, “Lord, look, here are two swords.” He replied, “It is enough.”
Suddenly one of those with Jesus put his hand on his sword, drew it, and struck the slave of the high priest, cutting off his ear.
He said to them, “But now, the one who has a purse must take it, and likewise a bag. And the one who has no sword must sell his cloak and buy one.
When those who were around him saw what was coming, they asked, “Lord, should we strike with the sword?”
Jesus answered, “My kingdom does not belong to this world. If my kingdom belonged to this world, my followers would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here.”
But since we belong to the day, let us be sober and put on the breastplate of faith and love and for a helmet the hope of salvation.
Resist him, steadfast in your faith, for you know that your brothers and sisters in all the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering.
