Then Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth and spread it on a rock for herself, from the beginning of harvest until rain fell on them from the heavens; she did not allow the birds of the air to come on the bodies by day or the wild animals by night.

They buried the bones of Saul and of his son Jonathan in the land of Benjamin in Zela, in the tomb of his father Kish; they did all that the king commanded. After that, God heeded supplications for the land.

Elijah said to Ahab, “Go up, eat and drink, for there is a sound of rushing rain.”

In a little while the heavens grew black with clouds and wind; there was a heavy rain. Ahab rode off and went to Jezreel.

Then all the people of Judah and Benjamin assembled at Jerusalem within the three days; it was the ninth month, on the twentieth day of the month. All the people sat in the open square before the house of God, trembling because of this matter and because of the heavy rain.

For by these he governs peoples; he gives food in abundance.

“Hear this, O Job; stop and consider the wondrous works of God.

For to the snow he says, ‘Fall on the earth’; and the shower of rain, his heavy shower of rain,

You water its furrows abundantly, settling its ridges, softening it with showers, and blessing its growth.

O children of Zion, be glad, and rejoice in the Lord your God, for he has given the early rain for your vindication; he has poured down for you abundant rain, the early and the later rain, as before.
