For you do not give me up to Sheol or let your faithful one see the Pit.

So it is with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable.

Your pomp is brought down to Sheol, and the sound of your harps; maggots are the bed beneath you, and worms are your covering.

that one should live on forever and never see the Pit.

My skin turns black and falls from me, and my bones burn with heat.

The womb forgets them; the worm finds them sweet; they are no longer remembered, so wickedness is broken like a tree.

They lie down alike in the dust, and the worms cover them.

One wastes away like a rotten thing, like a garment that is moth-eaten.

and after my skin has been destroyed, then in my flesh I shall see God,

My flesh is clothed with worms and dirt; my skin hardens, then breaks out again.

how much less a mortal, who is a maggot, and a human being, who is a worm!”
