You made my enemies turn their backs to me, and those who hated me I destroyed.

I was at ease, and he broke me in two; he seized me by the neck and dashed me to pieces; he set me up as his target;

In the time of his distress he became yet more faithless to the Lord—this same King Ahaz.

Judah, your brothers shall praise you; your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; your father’s sons shall bow down before you.

Because they stretched out their hands against God and bid defiance to the Almighty,

because they have covered their faces with their fat and gathered fat upon their loins,

But Pharaoh said, “Who is the Lord, that I should listen to him and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord, and I will not let Israel go.”

For not from the east or from the west and not from the wilderness comes lifting up,
