Your iniquities have turned these away, and your sins have deprived you of good.
Some were sick through their sinful ways and because of their iniquities endured affliction;
a fruitful land into a salty waste, because of the wickedness of its inhabitants.
Rather, your iniquities have been barriers between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.
The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah concerning the drought:
Although our iniquities testify against us, act, O Lord, for your name’s sake; our rebellions indeed are many, and we have sinned against you.
Therefore the showers have been withheld, and the spring rain has not come, yet you have the forehead of a prostitute; you refuse to be ashamed.
Your ways and your doings have brought this upon you. This is your doom; how bitter it is! It has reached your very heart.”
Why should any who draw breath complain about the punishment of their sins?
The punishment of your iniquity, O daughter Zion, is accomplished; he will keep you in exile no longer; but your iniquity, O daughter Edom, he will punish; he will uncover your sins.
