Moab has been at ease from his youth, settled like wine on its dregs; he has not been emptied from vessel to vessel, nor has he gone into exile; therefore his flavor has remained, and his aroma is unspoiled.

Our soul has had more than its fill of the scorn of those who are at ease, of the contempt of the proud.

God, who is enthroned from of old, Selah will hear and will humble them, because they do not change and do not fear God.

For waywardness kills the simple, and the complacency of fools destroys them;

We have heard of the pride of Moab —how proud he is!— of his arrogance, his pride, and his insolence; his boasts are false.

The earth shall be utterly laid waste and utterly despoiled, for the Lord has spoken this word.

On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wines, of rich food filled with marrow, of well-aged wines strained clear.

I spoke to you in your prosperity, but you said, “I will not listen.” This has been your way from your youth, for you have not obeyed my voice.

Therefore, the time is surely coming, says the Lord, when I shall send to him decanters to decant him and empty his vessels and break his jars in pieces.

We have heard of the pride of Moab— he is very proud— of his loftiness, his pride, and his arrogance, and the haughtiness of his heart.

“King Nebuchadrezzar of Babylon has devoured me; he has crushed me; he has made me an empty vessel; he has swallowed me like a monster; he has filled his belly with my delicacies; he has spewed me out.

Devastation, desolation, and destruction! Hearts faint and knees tremble; all loins quake; all faces grow pale!

(For the Lord is restoring the majesty of Jacob, as well as the majesty of Israel, though ravagers have ravaged them and ruined their branches.)

At that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and I will punish the people who settle like dregs in wine, those who say in their hearts, “The Lord will not do good, nor will he do harm.”

and I am extremely angry with the nations that are at ease, for while I was only a little angry, they made the disaster worse.
