When the Lord has finished all his work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, he will punish the arrogant boasting of the king of Assyria and his haughty pride.
The fortress will disappear from Ephraim and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Aram will be like the glory of the people of Israel, says the Lord of hosts.
“Then the Assyrian shall fall by a sword not of mortals, and a sword not of humans shall devour him; he shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall be put to forced labor.
His rock shall pass away in terror, and his officers desert the standard in panic,” says the Lord, whose fire is in Zion and whose furnace is in Jerusalem.
The Lord has commanded concerning you: Your name shall be perpetuated no longer; from the house of your gods I will cut off the carved image and the cast image. I will prepare your grave, for you are worthless.
There is no assuaging your hurt; your wound is mortal. All who hear the news about you clap their hands over you. For who has ever escaped your endless cruelty?
