Though they spread out their hands in the midst of it, as swimmers spread out their hands to swim, their pride will be laid low despite the struggle of their hands.

Pour out the overflowings of your anger, and look on all who are proud and humble them.

Then he will speak to them in his wrath and terrify them in his fury, saying,

Look, the Sovereign, the Lord of hosts, will lop the boughs with terrifying power; the tallest trees will be cut down, and the lofty will be brought low.

I will punish the world for its evil and the wicked for their iniquity; I will put an end to the pride of the arrogant and lay low the insolence of tyrants.

This is the plan that is planned concerning the whole earth, and this is the hand that is stretched out over all the nations.

But now the Lord says, “In three years, like the years of a hired worker, the glory of Moab will be brought into contempt, in spite of all its great multitude, and those who survive will be very few and feeble.”

We have heard of the pride of Moab —how proud he is!— of his arrogance, his pride, and his insolence; his boasts are false.

Enter into the rock, and hide in the dust from the terror of the Lord and from the glory of his majesty.]]

The haughty eyes of people shall be brought low, and the pride of everyone shall be humbled, and the Lord alone will be exalted on that day.

against every high tower and against every fortified wall;

the noise of foreigners like heat in a dry place, you subdued the heat with the shade of clouds; the song of the ruthless was stilled.

Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against his people, and he stretched out his hand against them and struck them; the mountains quaked, and their corpses were like refuse in the streets. For all this his anger has not turned away, and his hand is stretched out still.

Therefore I will allot him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out himself to death and was numbered with the transgressors, yet he bore the sin of many and made intercession for the transgressors.

I held out my hands all day long to a rebellious people, who walk in a way that is not good, following their own devices;

We have heard of the pride of Moab— he is very proud— of his loftiness, his pride, and his arrogance, and the haughtiness of his heart.

Moab shall be destroyed as a people, because he magnified himself against the Lord.

Yet I will restore the fortunes of Moab in the latter days, says the Lord. Thus far is the judgment on Moab.

I will punish Bel in Babylon and make him disgorge what he has swallowed. The nations shall no longer stream to him; the wall of Babylon has fallen.

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, for all his works are truth, and his ways are justice; he is able to bring low those who walk in pride.

He disarmed the rulers and authorities and made a public example of them, triumphing over them in it.

But God gives all the more grace; therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
