And the Lord sent an angel who cut off all the mighty warriors and commanders and officers in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned in disgrace to his own land. When he came into the house of his god, some of his own sons struck him down there with the sword.

For before the harvest, when the blossom is over and the flower becomes a ripening grape, he will cut off the shoots with pruning hooks, and the spreading branches he will hew away.

The forest will disappear completely, and the city will be utterly laid low.

At the sound of tumult, peoples fled; before your majesty, nations scattered.

Yet I destroyed the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of cedars and who was as strong as oaks; I destroyed his fruit above and his roots beneath.

Thus says the Lord: Though they are at full strength and many, they will be cut off and pass away. Though I have afflicted you, I will afflict you no more.

For all who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
