As for me, is my complaint addressed to mortals? Why should I not be impatient?

After a long time the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned under their slavery and cried out. Their cry for help rose up to God from their slavery.

They said to them, “The Lord look upon you and judge! You have brought us into bad odor with Pharaoh and his officials and have put a sword in their hand to kill us.”

Then the Lord spoke to Moses,

The evil bow down before the good, the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

The human spirit will endure sickness, but a broken spirit—who can bear?

From Mount Hor they set out by the way to the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom, but the people became discouraged on the way.
