Whatever has come to be has already been named, and it is known what humans are and that they are not able to dispute with those who are stronger.
But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?”
Why do you contend against him, saying, ‘He will answer none of my words’?
“Shall a faultfinder contend with the Almighty? Anyone who argues with God must respond.”
For he is not a mortal, as I am, that I might answer him, that we should come to trial together.
As for mortals, their days are like grass; they flourish like a flower of the field;
Surely everyone goes about like a shadow. Surely for nothing they are in turmoil; they heap up and do not know who will gather.
No wisdom, no understanding, no counsel can avail against the Lord.
That which is already has been, that which is to be already is, and God seeks out what has gone by.
The more words, the more vanity, so how is one the better?
Like a lion coming up from the thickets of the Jordan to a perennial pasture, I will suddenly chase Edom away from it, and I will appoint over it whomever I choose. For who is like me? Who can summon me? Who is the shepherd who can stand before me?
Or are we provoking the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?
