They brought the head of Ishbaal to David at Hebron and said to the king, “Here is the head of Ishbaal son of Saul, your enemy who sought your life; the Lord has avenged my lord the king this day on Saul and on his offspring.”

David was in the wilderness of Ziph at Horesh when he learned that Saul had come out to seek his life.

David fled from Naioth in Ramah. He came before Jonathan and said, “What have I done? What is my guilt? And what is my sin against your father that he is trying to take my life?”

Then Saul sent the messengers to see David for themselves. He said, “Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may kill him.”

and Saul threw the spear, for he thought, “I will pin David to the wall.” But David eluded him twice.

But Abner son of Ner, commander of Saul’s army, had taken Ishbaal son of Saul and brought him over to Mahanaim.

Saul spoke with his son Jonathan and with all his servants about killing David. But Saul’s son Jonathan took great delight in David.
