Jesus answered them, “Very truly, I tell you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin.

For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters, only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for self-indulgence, but through love become enslaved to one another.

As servants of God, live as free people, yet do not use your freedom as a pretext for evil.

For freedom Christ has set us free. Stand firm, therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, despicable, hating one another.

and that they may escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.

Concerning the prophets: My heart is crushed within me; all my bones shake; I have become like a drunkard, like one overcome by wine, because of the Lord and because of his holy words.

Woe to the proud garland of the drunkards of Ephraim and the fading flower of its glorious beauty, at the head of the fertile valley, those overcome with wine!

Thus he has given us, through these things, his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may escape from the corruption that is in the world because of lust and may become participants of the divine nature.

The priest shall make an examination, and if the eruption has spread in the skin, the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is defiling.
