So Jonathan called David and related all these things to him. Jonathan then brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence as before.

And Jacob saw that Laban did not regard him as favorably as he did before.

For some time now, even while Saul was king, it was you who commanded the army of Israel. The Lord your God said to you, ‘It is you who shall be shepherd of my people Israel, you who shall be ruler over my people Israel.’ ”

But Moses said to the Lord, “O my Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor even now that you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.”

For his burning place has long been prepared, also for the king; its pyre is made deep and wide, with fire and wood in abundance; the breath of the Lord, like a stream of sulfur, kindles it.

And David came to Saul and entered his service. Saul loved him greatly, and he became his armor-bearer.

The next day an evil spirit from God rushed upon Saul, and he raved within his house, while David was playing the lyre, as he did day by day. Saul had his spear in his hand,

So Saul removed him from his presence and made him a commander of a thousand, and David marched out and came in, leading the army.

Saul took him that day and would not let him return to his father’s house.

Saul heeded the voice of Jonathan; Saul swore, “As the Lord lives, he shall not be put to death.”

Again there was war, and David went out to fight the Philistines. He launched a heavy attack on them, so that they fled before him.
