I commend you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions just as I handed them on to you.

Both of them were righteous before God, living blamelessly according to all the commandments and regulations of the Lord.

Now in the following instructions I do not commend you, because when you come together it is not for the better but for the worse.

What! Do you not have households to eat and drink in? Or do you show contempt for the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What should I say to you? Should I commend you? In this matter I do not commend you!

through which also you are being saved, if you hold firmly to the message that I proclaimed to you—unless you have come to believe in vain.

For this reason I sent you Timothy, who is my beloved and trustworthy child in the Lord, to remind you of my ways in Christ Jesus, as I teach them everywhere in every church.

However that may be, let each of you lead the life that the Lord has assigned, to which God called you. This is my rule in all the churches.

And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for in spite of persecution you received the word with joy from the Holy Spirit,

But Timothy has just now come to us from you and has brought us the good news of your faith and love. He has told us also that you always remember us kindly and long to see us, just as we long to see you.

So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by our letter.

Now we command you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to keep away from every brother or sister living irresponsibly and not according to the tradition that they received from us.
