Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” and call insight your intimate friend,

if I say to the Pit, ‘You are my father,’ and to the worm, ‘My mother,’ or ‘My sister,’

bind them on your fingers, write them on the tablet of your heart.

that they may keep you from the loose woman, from the adulteress with her smooth words.

O that you were like a brother to me, who nursed at my mother's breast! If I met you outside, I would kiss you, and no one would despise me.
