When the people heard these harsh words, they mourned, and no one put on ornaments.

One's own folly leads to ruin, yet the heart rages against the Lord.

O Lord, in distress they sought you, they poured out a prayer when your chastening was on them.

Say to them, “As I live,” says the Lord, “I will do to you the very things I heard you say:

But Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh alone remained alive, of those men who went to spy out the land.

while the heirs of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

You know that later, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no chance to repent, even though he sought the blessing with tears.

Therefore the Israelites are unable to stand before their enemies; they turn their backs to their enemies, because they have become a thing devoted for destruction themselves. I will be with you no more, unless you destroy the devoted things from among you.
