How could you fail to perceive that I was not speaking about bread? Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees!”
The Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test Jesus they asked him to show them a sign from heaven.
Then they understood that he had not told them to beware of the yeast of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
Jesus said to them, “Watch out, and beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
But when he saw many Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
He said to them, “Why are you afraid? Have you still no faith?”
And he cautioned them, saying, “Watch out—beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod.”
Then he said to them, “Do you not yet understand?”
Meanwhile, when the crowd gathered by the thousands, so that they trampled on one another, he began to speak first to his disciples, “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees, that is, their hypocrisy.
You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky, but why do you not know how to interpret the present time?
Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot accept my word.
