“But to what will I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to one another,
What can I say for you, to what compare you, O daughter Jerusalem? To what can I liken you, that I may comfort you, O virgin daughter Zion? For vast as the sea is your ruin; who can heal you?
Let anyone with ears listen!
‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not mourn.’
You brood of vipers! How can you speak good things, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
Truly I tell you, all this will come upon this generation.
and to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces, and to have people call them rabbi.
Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place.
As he taught, he said, “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces,
He also said, “With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable will we use for it?
Woe to you Pharisees! For you love to have the seat of honor in the synagogues and to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces.
He said therefore, “What is the kingdom of God like? And to what should I compare it?
