He delivers the afflicted by their affliction, and opens their ear by adversity.

Nevertheless they shall be his servants, so that they may know the difference between serving me and serving the kingdoms of other lands.”

Are the consolations of God too small for you, or the word that deals gently with you?

then he opens their ears, and terrifies them with warnings,

He opens their ears to instruction, and commands that they return from iniquity.

Beware! Do not turn to iniquity; because of that you have been tried by affliction.

And if they are bound in fetters and caught in the cords of affliction,

But he saves the needy from the sword of their mouth, from the hand of the mighty.

“How happy is the one whom God reproves; therefore do not despise the discipline of the Almighty.

but he raises up the needy out of distress, and makes their families like flocks.

For he delivers the needy when they call, the poor and those who have no helper.
