I am gone like the shadow when it declines: I am tossed up and down as the locust.

He comes forth like a flower, and is cut down: he flees also as a shadow, and continue not.

Man is like to vanity: his days [are] as a shadow that passes away.

For all flesh [is] as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower thereof falls away:

Whereas you2f know not what [shall be] on the morrow. For what [is] your life? It is even a vapour, that appears for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

For who knows what [is] good for man in [this] life, all the days of his vain life which he spends as a shadow? for who can tell a man what shall be after him under the sun?

He has destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and my hope has he removed like a tree.

I [am] the man [that] has seen affliction by the rod of his wrath.
