[It is] not for kings, O L’mu’el [For God], [it is] not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:

Wine [is] a mocker, strong drink [is] raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.


Woe unto [them that are] mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink:


Blessed (Favored by God; happy; prosperous) [are] youi, O land, when youi king [is] the son of nobles, and youi princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness!


Yes also, because he transgresses by wine, [he is] a proud man, neither keeps at home, who enlarges his desire as hell, and [is] as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathers unto him all nations, and heaps unto him all people:


The posts went out, being hastened by the king’s commandment, and the decree was given in Shushan [lily] the palace. And the king and Haman [magnificent] sat down to drink; but the city Shushan [lily] was perplexed.

On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman [faithful], Bizta [booty], Harvona [ass-driver], Bigta [in the winepress], and Avagta [God-given], Zetar [star], and Karkas [severe], the seven chamberlains that served in the presence of Achashverosh [I will be silent and poor] the king,


Yea, youi shall be as he that lies down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lies upon the top of a mast.
